About the Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary Club

The Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary Club is located at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. We are a community and professional service group.

Rotary is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio. This is all done under the motto “Service Above Self”.

Followed by Rotarians worldwide in their business and professional lives, The Four-Way Test was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932. It has since been translated into more than 100 languages and is used by organizations and individuals throughout the world.

The Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary Club maintains an active involvement in the community. Each year our club provides scholarships to local colleges or vocational/technical school-bound high school students. Our Club is also involved in the yearly Rotary Student Exchange Program, providing housing and support to an incoming student from another country.

Each year the club sponsors a local high school sophomore or junior to attend a three-day leadership training program at the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy. The curriculum provides hands-on experience emphasizing citizenship, service to others, communication techniques, personal awareness and growth, and leadership skills.

The Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary Club has also helped purchase supplies and furniture for Share The Harvest Food Pantry, and to the new C.A.D.V. (Citizen’s Against Domestic Violence) facility in Camdenton. In addition, club members are committed to the environment and volunteer to collect trash along a section of Highway 5 in both the spring and the fall – doing our part to keep Missouri beautiful.

The Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary Club is also responsible for the start-up, completion, and management of the Westlake Aquatic Center in Laurie, MO. The Aquatic Center is now a self sufficient separate entity.   Supported by Rotary Club as needed with members still serving on the board of directors.

Rotary’s 34,000 clubs in more than 230 countries and regions encourage high ethical standards and carry out humanitarian projects to address such issues as poverty, health, hunger, education, and the environment.

The Four Way Test : Our Guiding Principle

From the earliest days of the organization, Rotarians have been concerned with promoting high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of the world’s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is The Four Way Test.

Adopted by Rotary in 1943, The Four Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the following four questions:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? “
